Elimination of Bias: A
Conversation About Race in the Age of Obama
As the first African-American president, President Obama has
drawn increased focus to several significant issues related
to race. As the end of his second term approaches, it’s
appropriate to reflect on those subjects and discuss their
impact on the legal profession in Minnesota.
Valerie Jensen, Executive Director of Twin Cities Diversity
in Practice, an association of 29 law firms and 14 corporate
law departments, sets the context for the discussion by
sharing demographic information about race and highlighting
topics related to race, diversity and inclusion that
Americans are dealing with nationwide. She will also discuss
how various aspects of “Minnesota Culture” impact these
matters. She then leads the panel in an insightful
discussion about how these issues are playing out in
Minnesota and in the legal profession, in particular.

Don’t “Waive” Good-Bye
to Attorney-Client Privilege: An Ethics Program for Both
Transactional Attorneys and Litigators
While attorney-client privilege issues
permeate every lawyer’s practice, whether transactional or
litigation-focused, many lawyers do not understand exactly
which communications are protected and which are not.
Lawyers unfamiliar with these principles put their clients
and themselves at risk.
Popular CLE presenter Tom Spahn returns to Minnesota to
deliver another practical ethics program. This seminar
explores fundamental – though often misunderstood –
principles regarding the attorney-client privilege and
provides tips for maximizing your clients’ attorney-client
protection. Tom also discusses in detail important questions
regarding the loss of protection via waivers, intentional or
inadvertent, and how you can protect against them.
